Sanjar is a first-year PhD student in Political Theory at Central European University.

Before coming to CEU, he received a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in philosophy at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. While at HSE, he worked as a teaching fellow at the School of Politics and Governance and taught undergraduate courses in political theory, history of political thought and political science. He was also a research assistant at HSE's Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities and took part in several of its research projects, investigating how virtue epistemology and virtue ethics can be applied in historical studies of academic communities.

Sanjar's research interests are centered around liberal political theory, political ethics, social & political epistemology, and social ontology. In his dissertation, he seeks to examine whether the ideal of civic friendship can be endorsed by citizens living in modern liberal societies.

Besides his main project, Sanjar is working on various topics in the ethics of citizenship and democratic theory, such as responsibility and liability for state action, permissibility of political resistance and disobedience, and the action-guiding role of ideals in non-ideal political conditions.
