Irene Tello Arista is a columnist for El Universal and co-chair of Action4Justice. She holds a master's degree in International Relations from New York University and is a former Fulbright scholar. She has more than ten years of experience working on anti-corruption efforts. She was the executive director of Impunidad Cero; a research assistant at NYU’s GovLab; and a research assistant at Transparencia Mexicana (the Mexican chapter of Transparency International). As part of her work at Impunidad Cero, she coordinated more than 50 studies on impunity and corruption cases in Mexico and the design of two digital platforms to fight impunity and corruption. For two and a half years, she led the investigation of corruption and irregularities in the Mexican public health system. She coordinated a multi-disciplinary team to investigate the use of shell companies to embezzle public funds from the health system and a year-long investigation to research the scarcity of medications in Mexico. She is currently doing a Ph.D. in Political Science at Central European University analyzing the use of beneficial ownership data for anti-corruption efforts.
